Meredith Martin Addy, co-founder and partner at intellectual property and corporate litigation firm AddyHart P.C., will be a featured panelist on two panels at IPWatchdog’s upcoming conference, The Patent Panels at IPWatchdog LIVE, September 12–14, 2021, at the Renaissance Dallas Richardson in Dallas, Tex.
On Monday, Sept. 13, Addy joins a panel to discuss “A Holistic Approach to Patent Strategy for C-Suite Executives,” addressing common misunderstandings about the process of drafting a patent specification and claims. Panelists will discuss how patent strategy needs to be crafted from the outset, with a focus on avoiding drafting mistakes that can prove fatal in later proceedings in US district courts and/or at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). The panelists will discuss the importance of aligning portfolio strategies with business strategy; forecasting, budgeting, and costs; creating assets mindful of potential litigation, and understanding USPTO examiner review. Addy is joined on the panel by Wesley McMichael, a shareholder of Volpe Koenig; Carlo Cotrone, Chief IP Counsel at Techtronic Industries North America; and Joan Archer, Ph.D., General Counsel at Farmobile, LLC.
On Sept. 14, Addy is a featured panelist on the topic “Patent Pools, Licensing and Antitrust Enforcement: Current Trends and Political Tension,” which addresses the imbalance that has forced innovators and implementers to increasingly turn to the judicial system to settle disputes rather than seeking negotiated resolutions. Recently, various antitrust theories have been raised against innovators who seek to license portfolios or join patent pools, empowering infringers to refuse to negotiate agreements. However, the Biden Administration may be signaling changes that could favor patent-holders, even as it and the Congress are seeking to broaden enforcement of antitrust laws. That is the wide-ranging discussion this panel will have regarding the future of patent pools, patent licensing and antitrust enforcement during the Biden administration.
Meredith Addy co-founded AddyHart P.C. in January 2019 with long-time colleague Robert P. Hart.
